The secret to thousands of contributions to the Mattermost open source project

Three years after launching, there are over 1,000 open source projects on GitHub that integrate with Mattermost. Our contributors have also added hundreds of amazing features to Mattermost. We’re reflecting on how we got here—and what we’re doing next to build an even stronger community for our contributors.

On-premises HipChat and Slack alternative (with migration services)

After HipChat’s end-of-life announcement, Mattermost began working with the Atlassian community to develop a migration path to Mattermost as a private cloud alternative to HipChat and Slack. We’re excited to announce a new community of Atlassian partners that can help HipChat customers maintain and expand their productivity by moving to a self-hosted Mattermost solution.

Announcing our new partnership with Slack

When we announced Stride in September 2017, we said, “It’s time we rethink the way we’re working. We believe that teams can stay connected and keep moving forward.” We still believe that. We knew we were taking a risk by entering an already competitive real-time team communications market, but we were willing to do the hard work necessary to build a great product. And we believe we were on that path.
