A few years ago, I was meeting with venture capitalists and private equity firms about the future of k6, the open source performance testing tool that we created in 2016 and open sourced in 2017. After talking about the k6 product mission — to give modern engineering teams better tools to build reliable applications — one investor challenged us to create an even bigger vision for the company: What if we acquired a company to broaden the k6 story?

There was a time when stuffing a bunch of keywords onto webpages was all it took for Google to rank those webpages higher. But things have changed much since then and Google’s SERP algorithms have evolved to quite an extent. In the present era, backlinks are the magic tools that drive better SEO. So much so that multiple dedicated tools have been devised to manage backlinks as well diagnose a website’s structure.

Engineers have been managing incidents for as long as they’ve been building software, but the idea of incident management as a strategic practice in its own right is still finding its place. We’re starting to see big shifts in that area, though — more companies are dedicating headcount, resources, and tools to help them better prepare for, respond to, and learn from their incidents.

Anyone that has ever applied for a visa and wanted to schedule an interview appointment remembers and knows the struggle of refreshing the page continuously, waiting for a new session to become available. A recent global survey demonstrates the importance of open source tools and technologies to IT professionals and their organizations. In Foundry’s MarketPulse Survey for SUSE, 2022, more than 600 IT professionals from enterprises around the world shared their experience and opinions on cloud native technology and open source. The results? Sixty-three percent of those surveyed said it was highly important for their organizations to choose open source tools and technologies.
