Why does the help desk still hear about network problems before the network engineers do, even with every router and switch under monitoring? In most cases the alert does its job, and the hours go into what comes after it. Tracking down who last touched the config takes time, and so does checking the switch's vendor support and how close that branch link is to capacity.
