A few months back, I blogged about my experience arriving at Stackery after code school. Months later, each day is still interesting and challenging and I’m so glad to have decided to pursue serverless as my concentration. I credit my AWS certifications for narrowing my focus enough to lead me to this point. The serverless community puts so much emphasis on exploration and getting started on your work or experiments today that, getting some exposure to AWS, you can get started right away.

We were only in the first week of the month-long billing period for our client’s AWS account. Already, it showed that they had exceeded the free-tier limit for SQS and had nearly exceeded it for CloudWatch too (approximately 85 per cent used). This is puzzling, because we hadn't run any data downloads for the client at all. In fact, all services had been down since before Christmas when we shut it down to work on new server CloudFormation scripts.

Azure lovers, we have good news for you. Our new years resolution in 2019 is to support the local Azure community. We kicked off with our first Azure Meetup in December. And as the numbers below suggest... people had a great time.

Google Cloud App Engine is a serverless platform that enables users to develop and deploy applications. App Engine allows developers to focus more on building applications and less on managing infrastructure. Even though you don’t have to worry about maintaining any underlying infrastructure, you do have to ensure that you have enough visibility into App Engine health and performance to proactively prevent downtime.

Whether you are just migrating to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or have well-established workloads running, monitoring spend is essential to maximizing your investment. As of a recent release, you can monitor GCP spend alongside resource performance with LogicMonitor.

What a year! It started with just me and Mikk, hacking away at our homes with an MVP and a handful of customers. Now, Dashbird is a team of 6 people with a lot of customers, global investors and a vision for the future. Looking back at the year, we’ve had a lot of wins and also our fair share of failures/learning experiences. I’m very excited for the upcoming year, but before we get into that, let’s look back at the year that just ended.
