New feature announcement: Introducing Automated Backups

You asked and we delivered! The days of configuring cron jobs to take backups for each of your environments are over. Soon, for every grid project, you will have your backups automated according to the plan of your choice. Meaning you can focus on deploying today without worrying about whether you can roll back to yesterday - this new feature has you covered. We thought we’d give you the heads up so you can get in there early and choose your desired backups plan.

Introducing a more complete logs forwarding experience

One of the key attributes of DevOps and SRE engineers is their ability to meticulously observe and monitor all of their applications. A task which can be achieved more efficiently by centralizing all generated logs to a central endpoint. By centralizing logging, engineers can, at any time, have an accurate overview of all events which take place across their applications, from just one place. Storing logs in an external system also allows companies to ensure compliance with many certifications.

Introducing a leaner and more flexible config (and support for custom hosts!)

To make the developer experience as smooth as possible, we are simplifying the onboarding process. Howso? By making the Platform.sh configuration files optional (zero configuration!). Due to popular demands, we’re also giving you a simple way to control custom DNS entries directly in the YAML configuration files (see below). Previously, if you started from one of our many ready-to-use templates, those YAML files were automatically included.

There are more details about the benefits of MongoDB below.

One codebase, many projects: Drupal multisite fleet management

For years, Chromatic managed virtual servers on behalf of our clients. As tools like Platform.sh matured, our team realized we were spending much of our clients’ budgets on simply maintaining those servers—instead of making their sites better (which is kind of our reason for existing).

Platform.sh hires Leah Goldfarb as Environmental Impact Officer to oversee greener web hosting strategy

Platform.sh has announced Leah Goldfarb as its new Environmental Impact Officer. In what is the first hire of its kind for the PaaS industry, Goldfarb will oversee the company's greener web hosting strategy as Platform.sh looks to further reduce the digital carbon footprint of its large enterprise clients.

New improvement: global settings in console

At Platform.sh, we are committed to making your development and deployment experience as smooth and seamless as possible. As part of this effort, we regularly listen to your feedback to see how we can improve things. One of those things: is how complex it can be to configure environment or project settings from the Console. That is why we decided to regroup all settings pages together so that they’re easily accessible from a single location.

We're increasing the default cron jitter from 5 to 20 minutes

At Platform.sh, we are committed to making your site perform as best as possible. As part of this commitment, we need to smooth down the system load spikes as much as possible—especially when many crons are triggered at the same time on a particular Grid region. To do so, we are increasing the default cron jitter from five minutes to 20 minutes.
