Yesterday, my morning started much like most Tuesday mornings do for me... my kids (6 and 4) were up way too early again at around 6am! Both were demanding I play with them before they head to school. I did my usual and said "give me five minutes" as I tried to wake up after another night of going to sleep after midnight... one day I should really learn to go to bed earlier, now that I have kids! But this morning was different. I started to wake from my dazed state and reached for my phone.
In October 2020 we released the community-driven roadmap for 2021. It's time to revisit and see all the things we have completed from the list! I am very proud to say that at Civo we have taken the community suggestions and implemented most of them during the launch on May 4th 2021. As with all start-ups, especially for a cloud provider, access to funds is imperative to build and scale quickly – after all building out new data centre regions doesn't come cheap! So in recent months we quietly opened a seed round to acquire $2.8m worth of funding – giving Civo a pre-money valuation of $16,800,000. Since launching into beta nearly 2 years ago, we’ve had tons of VC companies knocking on our door, but at this stage we decided not to take VC money.
We're very proud to announce that we have been accepted by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a conformant Certified Kubernetes provider for our v1.20 Civo Kubernetes product based on K3s. Every small business starts with a goal of competing with the big fish of the industry, and a huge part of that is having the certification to prove you're providing a compatible service. We're now in the company of some really inspirational organisations...
It’s with immense pride and excitement we can announce that Civo is coming out of beta! When we planned out our beta program, which we called #KUBE100, our first priority was getting real-world feedback from a wide range of developers, all at various stages in their Kubernetes journey. We wanted to create a Kubernetes platform that plugged the gaps we saw in the industry – speed of deployment, ease of use, and a simple billing model.
When we first started our managed Kubernetes beta, we knew utilising K3s as the Kubernetes distribution of choice was the right move. Not only is it light-weight and quick to deploy, K3s has features ideally suited for the scenarios we envisioned our users would encounter. It’s important for us to make sure any service we offer is 100% compatible with industry standards, and K3s allows us to do just that but with simplicity and speed for our users.
2020 was a busy year for Civo, and we couldn’t have done it, and get where we are now, without our community of users. Between the wider community, our Civo Ambassadors, and our staff team, there is an enormous amount of knowledge and skill to be found.
