Citrix has been transitioning products toward License Access Service (LAS) as the modern licensing method. Unlike traditional file-based licensing, LAS introduces service-based communication between products and the Citrix License Server. As of 15 April 2026, LAS becomes the mandatory licensing method for supported products. Environments still relying on file-based licensing will need to transition before that date.

As part of our day-to-day consulting work at GripMatix, we spend a significant amount of time in various customer environments where we are designing, validating, and troubleshooting EUC platforms. This particular issue surfaced during work for one of our customers, where we were validating Ivanti Workspace Control (IWC) on a new Windows Server 2025 environment.

The customer was already using Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) to deliver Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) machines. Rather than attempting to migrate existing VMware-based VDAs, which often introduces driver conflicts and legacy dependencies, we followed a proven best-practice approach. We provisioned new VDA machines directly on XenServer using the PVS Virtual Desktop Setup Wizard. This ensured clean builds, free from VMware-specific components, and fully optimized for the XenServer platform.

Citrix XenServer is increasingly becoming the strategic hypervisor of choice for organizations running Citrix VAD and DaaS workloads. With XenServer Premium Edition now included in Citrix subscriptions, it offers a more aligned, predictable, and cost-effective platform, without compromising on stability, performance, or capabilities. A critical part of enabling that transition is delivering the right level of monitoring and operational control.

MetrixInsight for Citrix VAD/DaaS surpasses Citrix Director/Monitor in many ways. Director/Monitor is useful for day-to-day visibility, but it is not a true enterprise monitoring platform.
