Pioneering Digital Product Passports with Nobody's Child | Zebra

The EU plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 with Digital Product Passports (DPPs) playing an important role. DPPs will include verifiable data on a product’s materials, manufacturing processes, and lifecycle impacts, as well as recycling, reuse and resell. The passports offer a great opportunity for retailers to improve sustainability performance, build trust with consumers by authenticating genuine products, and significantly improving supply chains too.
Nobody's Child is leading the charge having deployed a cloud-based digital product passport platform via Fabacus, to organize, validate, update and access passport information. Lifecycle data is collected and verified via RFID Threads sewn into garments (alongside QR codes), read by Zebra RFID Readers. These washable identifiers give products a digital voice essential for recording and accessing passport data, plus improving efficiencies.

Each RFID enabled garment can be tracked and traced through the supply chain and verified at each stage. It makes life easier in-store through multiple item scanning for faster checkouts, and near-perfect stock visibility. This accuracy means it’s easier to find items while reducing shrinkage and improving demand forecasting to cut waste and out-of-stocks.

The QR code in the wash label give customers the chance to access the sustainability credentials too. The solution increases customer engagement: by encouraging people to register their garments, and view the DPP related to it, they get personalised recommendations based on purchased items and may be entered into loyalty schemes and competitions.

When they scan the QR code, details are retained in their device’s wallet, and a certificate of authenticity is created which they can use to resale the items in platforms and return them without a receipt. They can also use it to arrange recycling.
