Our systems are pretty complex, right? Even small software modules that work predictably in a vacuum can behave very unpredictably at scale, especially in concert within a larger system, much like the Butterfly Effect. Those of you that are in large organizations probably see the rate at which software changes is quite fast and the infrastructure on which those systems run, you know, there's so many machines that the likelihood of any one of those machines failing approaches a statistical certainty because hardware eventually fails, right?

So Chaos Engineering is about building confidence in our systems, in the face of those unpredictable conditions. It's also about building confidence in your team to get exposure to common failures that happen in production all of the time so that you know how your system behaves in those situations so that your on-call engineers have the exposure needed to act in emergency situations in production.

Because it is a team effort. Everyone that touches the system should be thinking about reliability.
