Delaying OnCall Notifications in OnPage

Learn how to delay OnPage notifications for a defined period so alerts can be queued and sent later without interrupting the on-call team in real time.

OnPage’s Delay Notifications option temporarily holds notifications during a scheduled window and delivers the queued alerts afterward as low-priority notifications. This is useful when teams want to reduce interruptions during certain hours at night for use cases that allow them to do so, or planned activities while still preserving alerts for later review.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we use an existing DevOps on-call schedule and configure notifications to be delayed from August 20 at 5:30 PM through August 21 at 9:00 AM.

In this video, you'll learn how to:

  • Navigate to an existing on-call group schedule
  • Create a temporary schedule on top of the current schedule
  • Select Do Not Alert
  • Choose Delay Notifications
  • Set the start and end date and time for the delay window
  • Save the schedule and automatically resume normal alerting afterward

During the delay period, alerts continue to be captured, but notifications are queued instead of being sent immediately. When the scheduled window ends, the queued alerts are delivered together as low-priority notifications for the team to review.

This capability can be useful for IT, operations, engineering, facilities, healthcare and other on-call teams that need more control over when non-urgent notifications reach responders.
