CHAPTERS
00:00 Start
01:37 - Q: Please suggest Rundeck best practice to handle Rundeck and Linux. A: To handle linux nodes? Follow the SSH configuration (https://docs.rundeck.com/docs/administration/projects/node-execution/ssh.html#ssh-node-execution) To use Rundeck on Linux-based OS? Don't execute Rundeck as root user (WAR based installation), use the RPM/DEB packages depending of linux distro, and check the system requeriments https://docs.rundeck.com/docs/administration/install/system-requirements.html#system-requirements) also, configure some database engine as backend and use LDAP for users/roles administration.
05:11 - Q: What is planned about GUI Optimizations. A: With 3.4.0 due to release in the short term there is a new UI. Not sure what specifically you mean by "optimizations"; but a major part of this years Rundeck roadmap is around UI/UX for our product features. While keeping things easy to read we have reduced the menu size to allow for more "working space", added a new utility bar in the footer that offers a new plugin point for content and functionality, and enhanced look and feel across many features we felt weren;t clearly visible or obvious.
06:19 - Q: There are a bunch of avenues for community support and feature requests - Github, Google, Trello, StackOverflow. All appear to be active, although Github issues dont get the same attention as the Google group. Do you have a preferred channel, and are they same people monitoring all channels? A: Currently the Google Group is the best and recommended area for Open Source discussions. The GitHub is supposed; to be for actual code issues/bugs but does get treated a bit like a forum now and then. We do have someone that monitors them all, but there isn;t an expectation of solution or support there. This call is the only dedicated Community Support we offer outside of the Enterprise software.
08:11 - Q: Setting application proxy setting on Rundeck. Server is internal only, with no NAT. We have a web proxy that we would like to use. A: This issue was solved by the user here: solved by the user here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rundeck/comments/m6essw/rundeck_with_no_internet_connection/gr9ps1d
08:45 - Q: How to configure Rundeck in a production environment? What is the necessary configuration to be able to use Rundeck in prod. A: Use a database as backend (https://docs.rundeck.com/docs/administration/configuration/database/) and some sort of Identity Provider for user administration (https://docs.rundeck.com/docs/administration/security/authentication.html#ldap)
11:22 - Q: We;re designing a process where we would design our rundeck jobs on a volatile dev rundeck. Jobs definitions would be added to a git repository then submitted to a production rundeck instance through a pull request based process, so that our developers would be free to write their jobs and we the ops to review their jobs before putting them into production. We wrote some scripts that allows us to import/export those scripts so that we could automate the process but I;d like to know if the enterprise version could be helpful here (with some exclusive features). 14:43 - Q: Modifying default localhost to server ip address. Modifying properties file didnt make change effective in either enterprise or open source versions of rundeck.
15:23 - Q: I need to pass output from one step to another but can't figure out how to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction? A: We recommend the Welcome Project for this https://github.com/rundeckpro/welcome-project - Docker Environment https://github.com/rundeckpro/welcome-project/tree/main/client/project - Project Download
16:43 - Q: Is there a way to set a maximum number of execution history records to keep? I have jobs with over 1 million records, and the bulk delete only does 20 at a time. A: Using the Execution History Clean feature (Rundeck 3.1 and above) it;s possible to define a specific number of executions to keep. https://docs.rundeck.com/docs/manual/project-settings.html#edit-configuration
